from 388 reviewsMy Flecks of Gold journal is the only self care habit that I am consistent with. When I first became a mother, I felt in over my head. I loved my baby but I did not feel cut out for motherhood. I found the 3 in 30 podcast and the concept of bite size, doable actions towards a better motherhood was a breath of fresh air to me. The Flecks of Gold journal came out close to the time that I had my second baby. By that point I understood feeling unsure in motherhood but I was not prepared for the pure anger and resentment I felt in my postpartum state with the second baby. I decided to order the Flecks of Gold journal (probably in the middle of a sleepless night) and will forever be grateful that I did. While my struggles as a mother are still there, I now find myself looking for those daily glimmers. I can read back each day what the previous year’s memories held and remember the years with my babies as good, rather than helpless and resentful. Aside from family members and important paperwork, the Flecks of Gold journal has become my number one “save in case of a fire” item. Thank you for the gift this journal has brought to my life!
(My only suggestion for future orders would be to keep the colors consistent, or at least one option that would remain the same. I was disappointed the grey was not available on my most recent purchase as I am now on my second journal and wish they were unified).
I have been sitting on ordering one of these for a few years now. I finally bought it and I LOVE it! I love the high quality as well as the way it ends my day on a positive note. I had an exhausting mom day just today, and to end my day writing my golden moment made this crappy day feel less crappy.
I was really impressed with the cute box it came in and the little notecard , and then the journal itself the exterior faux leather felt really nice. I overall just love the idea of the snapshot over 3 years in this layout. I’ve journaled since I was 8 and I just love this concept. I have other journals still for kids specific stories, venting journal, spiritual moments. But I love this one for a quick highlight or lowlight kind of thing, it’ll be fun to compare the years
I’m so excited that the Flecks of Gold Journal will be here soon! I filled my previous one and have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to order again and then pre-ordered as soon as I was able. As a mom of five kids who all have ADHD and some other mental health challenges for some of them (anxiety, tic syndrome, OCD, ODD), and having ADHD and anxiety myself (as well as my husband having ADHD too), this journal has been such a blessing for me. I am also a recovering perfectionist and fight perfectionist tendencies often. When I completed my first Flecks of Gold journal, I wanted to wait for another one before starting because I wanted it to all be congruent. But just recently I started writing down my fleck of gold for each day in a regular notebook and the difference has been amazing. Summers are especially hard for me. My husband works two jobs and is really only home on the weekends. But just this one change has made me feel lighter and shifted my perspective quite a bit. It’s helping me pull out of a negative space that was starting to spill out of an internal place to externally affecting my relationship with my children. Thank you again for creating this beautiful journal. It is truly a blessing in my life.
I am starting my 3rd year of my first Flecks of Gold journal. It is such a wonderful start to my day and amazing to now see the gift of reading my thoughts from two years ago on the same day. I love this journal so much!! I will admit there are some days that I didnt have a moment to journal, however, now that I see the “magic” of reading my memories, I am motivated to make this a daily practice in ‘24. I am going to buy another journal when they are back in stock and a few more for gifts. Would be great for a new mom or anyone with kids. I started mine when my kids were teens and it is so funny to read some of the entries. I have never kept a journal before. This is the perfect length to fit into my daily schedule.
What a special book. The adult version had literally shifted my paradigm in parenting. I find myself looking for flecks of gold in my day and trying to sear them in my mind so I can remember to write them in my journal that night. My children love theirs and it’s so sweet to see/help them find flecks of gold in their days. I was pretty surprised at the cost of printing these days. I think it was about $25 to print the children’s digital version and maybe $5-10 to bind it at our local FedEx. The kids loved coloring theirs too!
I’ve been using my Flecks of Gold journal for a week now and I’m already experiencing a positive change in my perspective on my days. I have several gratitude rituals that I use regularly and this one is a particularly effective way to rewrite the script on even a very challenging day as a mother. Giving myself two minutes to reflect on my day and write down the highlights has been a blessing. I highly recommend giving it a try.
I got one as a gift and it brings me SO MUCH JOY. It’s actually a journal practice I can follow through with because it is bite size. I’m in my third year now, and I love reading what I wrote the past years. I bought 20 of them to give us gifts, love it so much!
This journal is a game changer. It helps me to look for the good even when there are struggles in motherhood. I just wish I had this earlier!
I have nearly completed 3 full years of journaling, so I'm now on my second Flecks of Gold journal. I love the daily practice, and mostly I love having a simple record of all our family's growth and good times!
I am currently in a rigorous PHd graduate school program with 5 kids ranging from 7 to 17 and life is flying by way too fast and I feel like I am so busy I am not enjoying the little moments with my kids, so the flecks of gold journal is helping me slow down and look for and savor the little meaningful and fleeting moments I have with my children. Thank you for creating this awesome journal I have also used as gifts for my sisters!
It feels so great to have finished my first journal! Excited to gather the good for the next 3 years, collecting sweet memories for my girls! Love the new color!!
Such a beautiful and quality journal. This will bring you joy.
I am obsessed with this journal. It is beautiful and so meaningful. I love the Timehop aspect and reading my memories from the previous years. It has drastically changed my outlook on motherhood. Even on the days I don’t remember to write down my fleck of gold (often!), I am so much more aware of looking for them.
I love how this journal is a practical and helpful gratitude practice, and even better, bound in a beautiful keepsake book that I will flip through with my children for years to come!
As a mother, your day is full of ups and downs.
And in some seasons, it may feel like mostly downs...
The baby has a fever. You just dropped a gallon of milk on the floor that you need to clean up, but your three-year-old is also screaming for you from the bathroom to come give her a wipe.
You are up against a deadline at work, but first you need to call the doctor to follow-up about the test results for your son who was just diagnosed with ADHD.
You know your work as a mother is important, but you are tired. So tired.
Before you had children, you thought that motherhood would be filled with magical moments of connection and joy.
But as you look at the milk spilled all over the floor–a sick baby whining on your hip and an impatient toddler hollering at you from the bathroom–you ask yourself, “Where is the magic in all of this?”
My friend, I have been there. And I have created something that I know will help you.
Hi–I’m Rachel! I’m a mom, a podcaster, and a sporatic journaler.
I fought hard to become a mom (my kids arrived via adoption and IVF), and I thought I would love every minute of it. But I ended up struggling with depression and discouragement as I tried to manage daily life with two very strong willed children.
When I confided how I was feeling to a wise mentor, she comforted me with these wise words:
“In motherhood, the hard moments sometimes outnumber the beautiful moments...but the beautiful moments always outweigh the hard moments.”
I let her words settle into my heart. They reminded me of a story I had heard about a young miner in the California Gold Rush who discovered that he didn’t need to collect big golden nuggets in order to build wealth: he could simply focus on gathering tiny flecks of gold, day after day.
This will change your motherhood.
I decided to start giving the beautiful moments in my days with my kids more weight by noticing them and writing them down. Each night, I journaled about one “fleck of gold” that I had noticed that day–a funny comment from my son, a perfect sunset on a family walk, or an unexpectedly meaningful conversation at bedtime.
During even the hardest days, if I could find one fleck of gold, it felt like enough. And over time, my flecks accumulated and became a rich and steadying anchor to me during the ups and downs of motherhood.
This practice has changed my life and my motherhood, and I want it to change yours as well. I created the Flecks of Gold journal so that YOU can start gathering your own “flecks of gold” with your children.
Flecks of Gold Journal
The Flecks of Gold journal is a “one-line-a-day” journal to help you gather the golden moments within your motherhood so you can experience more of its magic each day.
How It Works:
- Each day, write down one beautiful moment you experienced with your children (i.e. a funny comment from your toddler, a meaningful bedtime conversation with your teenager, or a relaxing moment of connection with your partner).
- With the three-year format, you get to revisit your golden memory the following year when that date on the calendar rolls back around. It’s like a Time-Hope for your best memories!
- This one’s important: Whether you write down a moment each day, or even once a week, over time you will train your brain to notice the good things as they are happening so you can actually feel more of the joy in motherhood (even on its hardest days!).
